Heroin
In 1300 B.C. Egyptians cultivated opium poppies during the reign of King Tutankhamen. They reportedly also traded the items across the Mediterranean.

Cocaine
Extracted from the leaf of a small tree known as the coca, which is native to South America. Cocaine occurs in two common forms; cocaine hydrochloride and cocaine base (Crack), both of which are used in the U.K.

Cocaine started to be taken as a social drug around 1911 in London.

Amphetamine
Amphetamines substituted for cocaine use.

Soldiers on both sides in World War 2 consumed millions of amphetamine tablets.
In 1942, Adolf Hitler received daily Methamphetamine injections from his quack doctor Morel. This corrupted his Judgement, undermined his health and probably changed the course of the War.

Alcohol/tobacco
Many more people die, either directly or indirectly, as a result of using Tobacco, alcohol and prescription drugs (which are all addictive) than all illegal drugs combined.

What is needed?
Reducing substance misuse by 1% in the U.K would represent a saving of £300 million per annum; it would also lead to a substantial reduction in human suffering.

Raise awareness and understanding.

Accept that drug use occurs and treat the users as citizens.
